Emma Original vs Performance — which collection should I buy in Ireland?

Buy Original if you want a mattress we have already slept on for eight weeks. Lite is 3.8/5, Original 4.2/5, Pro 4.5/5, Elite 4.4/5. Buy Performance if you want the new improved AirGrid Tech stack, a foam edge frame, and a choice of 26, 28 or 30 cm — and you are willing to use the 200-night trial because we have not scored those three yet. Performance is not a renamed Elite.

Is Emma Performance just the Original Elite with a new name?

No. Elite is the old Hybrid AirGrid, 27 cm, still on sale, and we already tested it (4.4/5). Performance is a new 2026 collection: improved AirGrid Tech, a foam edge frame, three heights, and no Airgocell named on the layer walk. Same brand. Different beds. First looks are on /emma-performance-26, /emma-performance-28 and /emma-performance-30.

Have you finished testing Performance yet?

Not yet. Nobody on this team has slept on a 26, 28 or 30. Oisín and Ciarán ordered the 26, Seán the 28, Aoife and Siobhán the 30. Testing starts the night they land. Scores follow after that. If you buy before then, the 200-night trial on emma-sleep.ie is the exit.

Which collection is better for hot sleepers?

Among the beds we have scored: Pro cooling 4.8/5 (ThermoSync), Elite 4.8/5 (first-gen AirGrid), Original 3.5/5 (MemoryAdapt traps heat), Lite 5.0/5 (Airgocell + springs, no memory foam; NapLab 10/10 on that review). Performance’s cooling line is Emma’s: the 26 showed 72% higher capacity to level out temperature spikes than a full-foam mattress. That is Emma’s test, not ours. If cooling is the whole decision and you want a number we own, stay on Pro or Elite for now.

Which is better for heavier sleepers?

Lite advertises 100 kg per side. Original, Pro and Elite advertise 130 kg per side; the Original review still says the sweet spot is under 90 kg and points heavier bodies at Pro. Oisín (95 kg, stomach) found Original pelvis 5.0/10 and Pro 6.5/10 — better, still borderline — and ordered Performance 26 because Emma’s own page said it would hold him up. That is a plan, not a score.

Can I try both collections in Harvey Norman?

Original range: yes, in selected Harvey Norman stores (stock varies — call ahead). Performance: we have not found 26, 28 or 30 in Harvey Norman, EZ Living or DID. Direct from emma-sleep.ie is the listing we have. The 200-night trial is Emma direct either way.

Why did the Performance 28 cost more than the 30 in Ireland?

It did on 31 August 2026, when the 90×190 was €649 for the 26, €1,079 for the 28 and €849 for the 30. By 13 October 2026 that had flipped: the 28 was 30% off in the Emma Days Sale (90×190 €749, full price €1,079), while the 26 (€929) and 30 (€1,219) were at full price. At full price the ladder runs 26, then 28, then 30. Check emma-sleep.ie the morning you order.

Do they share the same trial and warranty?

Yes when you buy on emma-sleep.ie: 200 nights, free collection, full refund, 10-year structural cover. Original review note: Wayfair is 100 nights on the Original we tested. Performance is not in those high-street listings we have found.

We slept on Original. Performance is still in transit.

Lite, Original, Pro and Elite are eight-week tests. The Original we slept on is the 5-layer bed Emma now lists as Original+ outlet — Emma also sells a newer same-name Original we have not slept on. Performance 26, 28 and 30 are a new AirGrid collection, not Elite with a sticker. We have ordered all three. Nobody here has slept on them yet.

The short verdict

This is not Pro vs Original. That call is already written. This is the collection split. If someone asks “just tell me which Emma family,” stay on Original until Performance has scores — unless you specifically want the new grid, the foam rail, and a height pick of 26, 28 or 30, and you are fine using the 200-night trial as the safety net.

Choose the Original collection if…

You want a number we own. Pro 4.5, Elite 4.4, Original 4.2, Lite 3.8 — all eight-week tests.
You want to lie on one in Harvey Norman before you pay. Performance is not on those floors.
You need it this week. The Original shows 2–5 working days on most sizes. Several Performance sizes currently show 1–3 weeks, and the 28 super king 12–14 weeks.
Budget is the constraint. A Lite single was €299 on 13 October 2026. The cheapest Performance single that day was €749.

Lite cooling 5.0 is the published review score (NapLab 10/10 on that page). Original cooling 3.5 is MemoryAdapt heat after 3–4 hours. Do not read Lite’s 5.0 as the whole collection.

On Original, MemoryAdapt traps heat — Oisín noticed warmth after 3–4 hours (cooling 3.5/5). Pro’s 20 mm graphite ThermoSync is why that bed exists (4.8/5). Elite’s first-gen AirGrid also scored 4.8/5. Lite has no memory foam and a 5.0 cooling score on its review.

Performance’s published cooling line lives on the 26 first look: Emma says 72% higher capacity to level out temperature spikes than a full-foam mattress. That asterisk is Emma’s. Seán already knows first-gen AirGrid from Elite; he will say whether the new grid is actually cooler once he has slept on it.

Edge support

Original has scores. Performance has a foam rail we have not sat on.

Lite 4.5/5 is the strongest sit-edge in the Original range we tested. Original 3.0/5 — 4.5-inch sinkage vs a 3.95-inch industry average. Pro 4.0/5 sitting, still “a bit unstable” when dressing. Elite 3.5/5. Performance adds a foam edge frame on all three heights; the first looks flag that as new versus the older range. It is not a 4.x score.

Delivery and in-store

Original is the one you can lie on this week. Performance is mail-order, and some sizes are slow.

Harvey Norman carries Original in selected Irish stores. Performance is emma-sleep.ie only in the listings we have found. Most Performance sizes currently show 2–5 working days; some show 1–3 weeks, and the 28 super king 12–14 weeks. The trial clock starts when the roll arrives, not when you pay.

Original is the cheaper family on the numbers we have dated.

Aoife — 65 kg, side, runs cold

Original scored · ordered Performance 30

Original: “The foam wraps around my shoulder and hip exactly where it needs to.” Shoulder map 8.8/10. On Pro, shoulder also 8.8/10 after break-in.

Performance: Ordered the 30. Emma’s FAQ calls it the deepest cushion; she is 65 kg and wants the thickest firmer MemoryAdapt (4.5 cm) so a light shoulder can get in. She has not slept on it.

Ciarán — 85 kg, back, lumbar sensitivity

Original: Foam softening and hips a fraction lower by week 6. Pro: “The best Emma mattress I’ve tested for back support.” Lumbar 8.5/10 vs 7.8 on Original.

Performance: Ordered the 26 with Oisín. Extra MemoryAdapt on 28/30 is how hips disappear on a heavier back or stomach — that is why they took the short one. Plan, not a diary.

Siobhán — 70 kg, combination, light sleeper

Original / Pro: Motion isolation 4.5 on both reviews. Partner movement was “a faint ripple.” Original edge pushed them toward the middle.

Performance: Ordered the 30 with Aoife. She wanted the zoned springs because Dara does not lie still. Foam rail is new versus the older range. Unscored.

Oisín — 95 kg, stomach, runs hot

Original: Pelvis 5.0/10. Heat after 3–4 hours. Pro: Pelvis 6.5/10 — better, still borderline.

Performance: Ordered the 26 because Emma’s page said it would hold him up, and because 28/30 add foam he does not want. Hip sink is the first night’s job when it lands.

Seán — mid height, runs hot

Default Emma pick is still Pro · ordered Performance 28

On the scored range, Pro is still the default “just tell me which Emma.” He ordered Performance 28 for Drumcondra as the mid height — more contour than 26, not Emma’s deepest 30. Aoife will do guest nights once it lands. Numbers once he has slept on it, not adjectives now.

Don’t put foam on AirGrid

If Performance feels wrong, that is a different height in the collection, not a topper problem. The 6 cm Original topper is only for the 5-layer Original that still feels too firm.

Slide the roll onto the frame before you unwrap. Performance wants slats no more than 7 cm apart. Compatible bases: Emma Original Bed, Emma Metal Bed, or best beds.

Stay on Original if you want a scored Emma tonight. Pro is still Seán’s default inside that family; Elite if you want the AirGrid we have already slept on; the 5-layer Original if you fit 60–90 kg and do not overheat; Lite for guest rooms. Buy Performance only if the new grid, the foam rail, and a 26/28/30 height pick are the reason you are here — and you will use the 200-night trial until our scores land.
