A bed frame in Ireland is the thing under the mattress: slats, height, headboard, and whether the sale price is the photo you saw. How to Choose the Right Bed Frame

A quick guide before our two Emma reviews. The frame is not the mattress — start with our mattress picks if you still need the sleep surface, then decide height, headboard, and size.

Mattress Not Included

Emma’s beds are frames: platform, slats, and (on the Original) an optional headboard. Checkout will offer to add a mattress in the same basket — that is a separate product with its own 200-night trial. Pair the frame with a mattress from our Best Mattress in Ireland list, not with the sale tile.

Slatted Base & 7 cm Gap

Both Emma frames use wooden slats. Emma mattress warranties require slat gaps of no more than 7 cm — wider gaps let foam sag through and can void cover. These frames are built as a matching slatted base; if you use another frame, measure the gap before you unpack the mattress.

Height: Storage vs Sit-to-Stand

Original Bed: about 33 cm overall without the headboard, 90 cm with it. Metal Bed: 25 cm overall — useful for under-bed boxes, a dip if you struggle to stand from a low bed. Mattress height stacks on top of those figures.

The Headboard Price Trap

The Original Bed “from €515” is the stripped frame. Colour, size, and the Plain headboard recalculate the total. A configured Dark Grey Double + Plain headboard loaded at €1,079 on emma-sleep.ie. Screenshot the configurator — do not treat the sale tile as the photo price.

Metal Bed: No Headboard

The Metal Bed has no headboard option, even if Emma’s schema.org blob still utters the word. Sit-up reading means the wall, extra pillows, or a separate board. IKEA VEVELSTAD Double with slats is about €115 versus Emma Metal Double €459 — you are paying for trial and doorstep delivery, not exotic steel.

30-Night Trial, 2-Year Guarantee

Emma beds get a 30-night trial and a 2-year guarantee. Emma mattresses are 200 nights and 10 years. Do not assume the mattress policy covers the frame, or the other way around. Free returns apply to the bed SKU you ordered.

Need a Single?

Only the Metal Bed in Emma’s range comes in Single (then Double through Super King). The Original Bed is Double, King, and Super King only — no Single, no ottoman lift.
