Head-to-headIreland 2026 · Emma sleep-tested · Simba from published roundups

Emma vs SimbaWhich should you buy in Ireland?

The search Irish shoppers still type. In 2026 it is not a 50/50 brand race. Emma is the live Irish hybrid with a 200-night trial. Simba shut its Irish shop — leftover Hybrid Pro stock sits on Very.ie, without Simba's unpack-and-sleep trial. Full Emma tests: Original Pro and Original. This is the buy-or-skip call between the two brands.

3+ years of independent testing for Irish consumersHow we testMeet the team

Simba left Ireland. Very.ie still has boxes.

simbamattress.ie is a shutdown notice: Simba is no longer fulfilling orders here. The UK site still runs a 200-night trial — it does not ship this as an Irish store. Very.ie still listed Hybrid, Hybrid Pro, and Hybrid Luxe when we checked. Those Hybrid Pro pages say the mattress is non-returnable once the protective cover comes off. Our catalog and older roundups still say "200 nights via Very Ireland." Live checkout beats the catalog line. Emma's 200-night trial is the one you can still use.

The short verdict

Seán's default Emma is still the Original Pro — Goldilocks hybrid, ThermoSync cooling 4.8/5, extra-tall 7-zone springs. Simba Hybrid Pro is the firmer, springier, stronger-edge bed in every comparison table we have already published. In 2026 that table is not enough. You cannot trial Simba the way you trial Emma. If the Aerocoil feel is not a must, stop shopping Simba and buy Emma.

Choose Emma if…

  • You want a 200-night full-refund trial on emma-sleep.ie — not a hygiene non-return once unpacked.
  • You want the mattress we actually slept on. Pro 4.5/5; Original 4.2/5. Simba has no 8-week overall on this site.
  • Budget matters. Original King €559–€594 vs Simba Hybrid Pro King ~€1,200–€1,350. Pro King €650–€850 on sale.
  • You sleep warm — buy Pro or Elite / Airgrid, not Original (cooling 3.5).

Choose Simba Hybrid Pro if…

  • Edge is the job. Our Pro review already sends "best edge support" to Simba Hybrid Pro. Catalog edge 8/10 vs Emma Pro 4.0/5.
  • You want Aerocoil bounce and a firmer surface (catalog 6.5/10; Original table ~7/10) rather than Emma's measured 5.0–5.5 on the Pro.
  • You are a heavier back/stomach sleeper up to 114 kg. That is the heavy-people roundup pick — not Original.
  • You have read Very.ie's unpack rule, you still want that SKU, and you are paying from €1,215 knowing Simba's Irish shop is shut.

Category scores, side by side

Emma numbers are the published 1–5 review scores. Simba numbers stay on the catalog 1–10 scale and the roundup labels — so they are not mixed into Emma's star ratings. Methodology: how we test.

Honest trade-offs

Trial and Irish availability

Winner: Emma. This is the 2026 decision, not a footnote.

emma-sleep.ie still sells the range with a 200-night collection-and-refund trial, 10-year warranty, and Irish support. You can try Emma in Harvey Norman (Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford) then order direct for the full trial.

Simba.com's 200-night trial is real — in the UK. simbamattress.ie says they do not operate here. Very.ie's Hybrid Pro listing: non-returnable after the protective cover comes off. Statutory rights remain. That is not the 200-night boxed-mattress trial Irish shoppers think they are getting when they google "Simba vs Emma."

Cooling

Emma Pro is the tested cooling win inside Emma. Simba is the published alternative when Original is too hot.

Original cooling is 3.5/5. Oisín felt heat after 3–4 hours. That review tells hot sleepers to look at Elite or Simba Hybrid Pro, not to "upgrade the cover and hope." Pro cooling is 4.8/5 — graphite ThermoSync. Ciarán slept without his fan; Aoife did not shiver.

Simba catalog cooling is 8/10. The cooling roundup cites up to 5,000 Aerocoils acting as bellows, Simbatex graphite, and a wool layer. Original review table: Simba Excellent vs Original Good. If cooling is the whole job and you want the mattress we slept on, that is still Elite / Airgrid or the Pro — not a shutdown Simba shop.

Edge support

Winner: Simba Hybrid Pro on every published comparison we have.

Original sit-edge was 4.5 inches vs a 3.95-inch industry average — score 3.0/5. Pro sit test 4.0/5, "a bit unstable" dressing, fine for sleeping near the edge. Simba catalog edge 8/10. Original table: Very Good. Pro review: "Best edge support → Simba Hybrid Pro." Couples roundup uses the same Aerocoil story for partners who sleep on the perimeter. If that is you, Simba is the published pick — with the Very.ie caveat above.

Value

Winner: Emma, especially Original, if the sleeper profile fits.

Original review: a sale Double or King is roughly half a Simba Hybrid Pro. Value 4.6 vs Pro 4.2. Live Very.ie Hybrid Pro from €1,215. Emma Pro King typically €650–€850 on sale. Never pay Emma RRP. You are not "getting a better mattress for more money" if you cannot return the expensive one after night four.

What we can actually say from testing

Named quotes are from the Emma reviews. We have not published Simba diary lines — so there are none here.

Aoife — 65 kg, side, runs cold

Emma

Original: "The foam wraps around my shoulder and hip exactly where it needs to." Shoulder map 8.8/10. Pro: same 8.8 at the shoulder after break-in. Soft-feel side sleepers are not who the Simba 6.5/10 catalog firmness is for.

Ciarán — 85 kg, back, lumbar sensitivity

Emma Pro

Pro: "The best Emma mattress I've tested for back support." Lumbar 8.5/10 vs 7.8 on the Original. If he needed a still-firmer, stronger-edge hybrid than Pro, the published alternative is Simba Hybrid Pro — not Original.

Siobhán — 70 kg, combination, light sleeper

Motion is not the splitter

Emma motion isolation 4.5/5 on both beds. Simba couples roundup: Very Good (4/5), Aerocoils responding per partner. Partner movement is not why you pick one brand in this pair. Trial and edge are.

Oisín — 95 kg, stomach, runs hot

Not Original

Original: pelvis 5.0/10, heat after 3–4 hours. Pro: pelvis 6.5/10, still "borderline." Stomach / heavier / hot is exactly where our reviews already name Simba Hybrid Pro or a firmer bed. The 2026 catch: that recommendation now comes with Very.ie's unpack rule.

What you are paying for in the stack

Emma Original Pro — 6 layers, 27 cm

  1. UltraDry cover — zip-off, 40°C wash
  2. ThermoSync graphite foam (20 mm) — the cooling layer we scored 4.8
  3. Airgocell — open-cell breathability
  4. MemoryAdapt (~2.5 cm on the Pro review)
  5. HRX support foam (~2.5 cm)
  6. 7-zone extra-tall springs (18.5 cm)

Original drops ThermoSync and uses 5-zone, 15.8 cm springs at 25 cm. Full split: Pro vs Original.

Simba Hybrid Pro — 8 layers, 28 cm

  1. Cover + 100% wool pad (Very.ie spec)
  2. 25 mm RG50 comfort foam
  3. 20 mm titanium Aerocoil micro-springs
  4. Second 20 mm Aerocoil layer
  5. 40 mm FE33 foam borders (the edge story)
  6. 50 mm FE36 mid layer
  7. 160 mm FE33 zoned base

Advertised fill from the live Very.ie Hybrid Pro description. Original review table counts 8 layers. Catalog adds Simbatex® graphite foam and up to 5,000 Aerocoils — we have not cut a Simba open on a test bed.

Match the setup

If you buy Emma, start with a pillow from the same shop. If you buy Simba on Very.ie, do not assume you can unpack accessories and send them back the way Emma's trial works.

Emma vs Simba — common questions

Bottom line

Emma is the Irish buy. Original Pro is the mattress we point most people at; Original is the cheaper hybrid when you are 60–90 kg and sleep cool. Simba Hybrid Pro is still the published pick for edge, Aerocoil bounce, and heavier back/stomach sleepers — but only if you are buying leftover Very.ie stock with your eyes open. simbamattress.ie is not a shop anymore. That is the whole 2026 comparison.
