IKEA.com/ie shopper stars are labelled as theirs. We are not inventing comfort, cooling, or edge scores. Floor models in Dublin or Cork beat a blog if feel is the argument.
The short verdict
If someone asks "just tell me which IKEA pocket spring to buy," VALEVÅG is the default. It is the cheaper 24 cm, 5-zone bed, it covers Super King and 120×190, and on 9 September 2026 it was on a new lower price. Pay up to VÅGSTRANDA when the 28 cm double-layer S-core is the reason you are standing in the aisle — not because a star rating told you to. Both show 4.0 on IKEA's own reviews.
Choose VÅGSTRANDA if…
- You want the thicker 28 cm stack and IKEA's two-layer S-core, not a foam hybrid.
- Seven comfort zones and an extra spring layer are the upgrade you can name before you pay.
- Standard Single, Double, or King is enough. Super King and 120×190 are not on this model in Ireland.
- You will use Sleep on It if the firm/medium-firm label is wrong for you — exchange once, not a refund.
Choose VALEVÅG if…
- You want IKEA's pocket-spring tier without paying for a second coil layer.
- You need Super King (180×200) or 120×190. VÅGSTRANDA does not list those sizes in Ireland.
- Price is the constraint. A Double was €229 vs €449 on the stamp below.
- You will lie on both in Ballymun or Cork anyway — VALEVÅG is the cheaper one to take home and swap if it is wrong.

Honest trade-offs
What you are actually paying for
Winner on paper: VÅGSTRANDA — if the extra coil layer is the point.
VALEVÅG is a 24 cm pocket spring with five comfort zones and a thick foam top. Pocket springs work independently, IKEA says, so partner movement is not supposed to travel. Edge-to-edge coils, reinforced edges, roll-packed.
VÅGSTRANDA adds the S-core: two pocket-spring layers in a wave, seven zones, extra-thick foam, 28 cm. Same 33 kg/m³ polyurethane foam density listed on both. Same recycled-polyester side ticking. The upgrade is height and a second spring unit — not a graphite cooling slab, not a different foam chemistry.
Sizes
Winner: VALEVÅG if you need Super King or 120×190.
IKEA Ireland's mattress guide is blunt: Standard sizes only, not EU. Single 90×190, Double 135×190, King 150×200, Super King 180×200. VALEVÅG lists all of those plus 120×190. VÅGSTRANDA stops at Single, Double, and King. If the frame is Super King, the step-up pocket spring is not the one on the Irish site.
Trial and guarantee
Tie — same rules on both.
Sleep on It is 365 days and one exchange. The mattress must be clean, unmarked, and undamaged. IKEA Ireland's help article is explicit: they will not refund under that scheme. Unopened stock can still follow the ordinary return policy. Collection, if you need it, is a paid service — check the live fee; product pages also list old-mattress removal at €40 with a new buy.
Both product pages currently print a 10-year guarantee. That is not the 25-year figure still floating on older roundups. Screenshot the guarantee on the page you pay for.
Value
Winner: VALEVÅG on the current Irish ticket, unless you named the S-core before you saw the price.
VALEVÅG is tagged new lower price across the sizes we checked. VÅGSTRANDA is not. IKEA shopper stars do not separate them. If you can get to a store, lie on both firmnesses, then buy the cheaper one you would actually keep after a month — IKEA itself says wait at least a month before you decide the bed is too firm.

VÅGSTRANDA is the thicker, two-layer pocket spring on ikea.com/ie. VALEVÅG is the cheaper 24 cm bed with more sizes and, on this stamp, a new lower price. IKEA's own stars do not pick a winner. We have not slept on either, so we are not going to pretend a 4.8 cooling score exists. Lie on both in store if you can. Use Sleep on It as an exchange safety net, not as Emma's 200-night refund.
