The Rebrand: Premium Became Original Pro
On 1 February 2026 Emma folded the old Premium Mattress Topper into the Original family as the Original Pro Topper. Same graphite ThermoSync, same HRX comfort foam, same anti-slip underside. The product page still has to live with leftover FAQ copy that heads the layer diagram “Premium Topper”. We checked trial, guarantee, and Irish positioning against the old Premium listing. Here’s the audit.

Bottom line: the only thing that changed on 1 February is the label on the box. If you slept on a Premium Topper in 2025, this is that pad.

A topper is not a new mattress. Emma says that in their FAQ and they are right. The Pro is for a mattress that is too firm or too hot — not one that has a body-shaped hole in it. I wish more accessory pages led with that sentence instead of a lifestyle shot of a cloud.
We put this on a firm hybrid that sleeps warm, and on a softer mattress that already had enough give, specifically so we could test Emma’s “don’t put it on a perfect bed” warning instead of just quoting it. Oisín (hot, 95 kg, stomach) is the tester you listen to on cooling. Aoife (cold, side, already-giving mattress) is the tester you listen to on overshoot. Both were right about their own beds. That is the whole review, if you only have a minute.
On a firm hybrid I already like the support of, ThermoSync on top of ThermoSync is gilding. On a spare-room board that radiates heat, this is the upgrade. I would not use it as a repair kit, and I would not buy it because a newspaper once told a nice story about toppers saving old beds. Emma’s own warning is the better source.

Quick Verdict for Irish Buyers
The Original Pro Topper is Emma’s climate topper: graphite ThermoSync foam, a pressure-relief HRX comfort foam, a removable cover, anti-slip on the underside. It is assembled in Ireland from Dublin-made foam; the cover is imported. You feel the extra height — call it 9 cm with cover; leftover FAQ copy still says 8 cm of foam versus 5 cm on the Original Topper — as soon as you sit on the bed.
Cooling is the Pro argument versus the reversible Original Topper. Graphite pulls heat; the Original relies on open-pored Airgocell (open-cell PU, not memory foam). Oisín is the tester you listen to here: the Pro changed nights on a firm hybrid. Aoife did not love the extra cool and already had enough give on a softer mattress — Emma’s FAQ warns that a topper on a “perfect” mattress can let shoulders and hips sink too far. That happened to her.
Bottom line: the cooling, Irish-assembled upgrade for a too-firm or too-hot mattress that is still structurally sound. Not a repair kit for a dead bed.

What “Pro” Adds: ThermoSync, HRX, Cover
Emma’s layer diagram (still headed Premium Topper on the FAQ block) is three parts: graphite ThermoSync, a comfort foam for all sleep positions, and a cooling-product cover. Anti-slip is on the underside — called out when Emma compares it to the Original Topper. We are not inventing millimetres. Emma does not publish them for this SKU, and the mattress 20 mm figure does not transfer. Cover fibre is the one spec they do print clearly: 98% polyester, 2% elastane.
Removable cooling-product cover
Included in the 9 cm marketing height98% polyester, 2% elastane. Washable. Emma positions it as a cooling-product knit, not a cheap mattress pad ticking. Keep it on — a random waterproof sheet will muffle the graphite layer underneath.
ThermoSync® (graphite) foam
Emma does not publish millimetres for this SKUThe climate layer. Graphite particles are sold as heat conductors. Treat the physics copy as marketing; treat our hot testers as the evidence. Do not assume this is the same 20 mm dose used in the Original Pro mattress.

No invented millimetres. Review sites love a exploded-diagram with 30 mm of this and 40 mm of that. Emma has not given us those numbers for the Pro Topper. Height is reported as Emma’s 9 cm including cover, with the FAQ’s 8 cm of foam called out as a discrepancy — not as our caliper reading. We did not run the mattress pressure mat as a topper-only protocol.
Assembled in Ireland — With an Imported Cover
Emma’s Irish page leads with Ireland, and for once the nuance is in the small print rather than the headline. The foam is made in Dublin. The topper is assembled in Ireland. The cover is imported. That is three sentences, not one slogan, and we are going to keep them separate.
Why this matters for a review: Irish shoppers are rightly proud of local foam, and Emma is right to lead with Dublin. They are also right, in the quieter copy, to admit the knit is not Irish. If another site tells you this topper is “made in Ireland” as a three-word fact, they have rounded past the only imported part you actually sleep against.
Practically: the cover is the washable bit. Foam does not go in the machine. So the part you launder is the imported part, and the part that does the climate work is the Dublin foam. That is a cleaner story than a flag on the box.
The Height Clash: 9 cm Including Cover vs 8 cm in the FAQ
Two numbers are live on Emma’s own site at once. Product shopping copy — and our catalog — uses 9 cm including the cover. The leftover comparison FAQ still says the Pro is 8 cm of foam versus 5 cm on the Original Topper (which itself is 6 cm including cover in the shopping copy). This is not a scandal. It is a cover-on versus foam-only rounding that nobody has cleaned up after the February rebrand.

Why you should care: fitted sheets. Nine centimetres of extra loft is enough to ping a standard Irish fitted sheet off the corners of a thick hybrid. Deep-pocket linen is a real line item, not a footnote. If your bed already wears a 30 cm mattress, you are now in hotel-topper territory.
Live with “about eight to nine centimetres.” If millimetres decide a deep sheet, measure the unpacked topper on your mattress — do not trust either of Emma’s leftover numbers to the last millimetre.
ThermoSync Dose: A Topper Is Not a 20 mm Mattress Layer
The Original Pro mattress puts 20 mm of graphite ThermoSync in a 27 cm hybrid. That 20 mm sits over Airgocell, memory foam, HRX, and 18.5 cm of pocket springs. ThermoSync there is a climate skin on a much larger machine. On this topper, ThermoSync plus HRX are almost the whole product. Copying the mattress millimetre onto the topper would be a guess dressed as a spec.
ThermoSync is a thin climate layer in a hybrid stack we have measured. Springs do the support. Foam below does the transition. Graphite is a dose, not the mattress.
Cover + ThermoSync + HRX + anti-slip. No springs. No 18.5 cm coil unit. Emma has not published topper-layer millimetres. We will not assume 20 mm just because the mattress uses it.
What that means on the bed
A mattress ThermoSync layer can fail to change the night if the springs and foams underneath still sleep warm — you feel a cool skin, then the hybrid does its usual hybrid thing. A topper ThermoSync is the surface you lie in. There is no 16 or 18 cm of steel to dilute it. That is why Oisín felt this as a climate product and not as a “bit of graphite in the mix.”
It is also why stacking this on an Original Pro mattress is a different experiment from putting it on a firm, warm hybrid that never had ThermoSync. Seán’s line stands: ThermoSync on top of ThermoSync is gilding unless the mattress itself is too firm at the surface.
Treat Emma’s “reaches ideal skin temperature faster” copy as marketing physics. Treat five Irish testers on two kinds of mattress as the evidence. Graphite is not a miracle; it is a conductor in foam. Cheap waterproof protectors still win if you put one on top.
Emma’s Own Warning Beats the Telegraph Anecdote
Every few years a newspaper runs a piece about a mattress topper “saving” a tired bed. The Telegraph has done the genre: a reader, a dip, a pad, a happy ending. It is a weaker source than Emma’s own FAQ, which is unusually honest for a brand that also wants to sell you the pad.
Emma’s FAQ, in substance: a topper will not fix a hollow. If the mattress has a body-shaped dip, the topper follows it. You have paid to upholster the hammock.
That is the manufacturer telling you not to buy the accessory for the job you most want it to do. We agree, and we are going to say it louder than a lifestyle anecdote.
Physics is not sentimental. Foam on top of a collapsed core still sits in the valley. You may feel a bit of pressure relief at the shoulder. You will still sleep in a banana shape. Morning lumbar complaints do not come from a missing 9 cm of graphite; they come from a mattress that has lost its middle.
Siobhán did notice one legitimate “bridge” use Emma also mentions: two singles zipped, or a visitor’s crevice. A topper can take the ditch out of a join. That is not the same as filling a body hollow worn into one mattress. Do not confuse the two.
If you feel the mattress hollow during the first fortnight, stop and start a mattress search. Do not wait for night 99 of the trial hoping the foam will “settle into” a repair. It will settle into the hole.
How We Rated It
A real comfort layer, not a thin pad. Softens a firm mattress without turning it into a marshmallow. Too much of a good thing on an already-plush bed.

We used the Pro on a firm hybrid and on a softer mattress so the “don’t put it on a perfect bed” FAQ could be tested, not just quoted. Five sleep positions. Same protocol as our other accessory nights — lived sleep, not a showroom flop.

Emma sells two toppers in Ireland. They are not a thick and thin version of the same idea. One is a climate pad with anti-slip. The other is a reversible Airgocell/HRX flip (open-cell PU, not memory foam) that often lands mid-firm on both faces. Name them as products, not as a ladder you are obliged to climb.

The Case Against the Original Pro Topper
We give this 4.6/5. We do not give it 5/5, and the missing tenths are not nitpicks. Here are the strongest arguments for spending the money elsewhere.
1. It will not fix a sagging mattress
Emma says it. We say it louder. A hollow telegraphs. The Telegraph-style anecdote is a weaker source than the manufacturer’s own FAQ. If the bed has a body-shaped hole, buy a mattress — the Original Pro mattress if you already like this climate story at full scale.
2. It can ruin an already-soft mattress
Aoife on a plush bed: shoulder disappeared. Emma’s FAQ warns that a topper on a “perfect” mattress lets hips and shoulders sink too far. That is not a rare edge case. If you already like the give, adding 8–9 cm of comfort foam is how you overshoot.
3. From €359 is not a cheap pad
The reversible Original Topper started at €161.40 in the sale we saw. You are paying for graphite, height, anti-slip, and the trial. If you do not know whether you want a topper at all, that is a lot of money to learn the lesson. Use the 100 nights — but start with honesty about whether climate is actually the job.
When to walk away: sagging core, already-soft mattress, or a budget that only stretches to “try a topper.” The Original Topper exists for the last of those. A new mattress exists for the first.
